Derakhshan Qurban-Ali is an international human rights advocate, independent researcher, External Relations Manager of Canadian Hazara Humanitarian Services, and Co-Director of WelcomeHome.to, an organization connecting resources, people, and organizations who support refugees in Toronto. She has nearly a decade of experience working with refugees, from volunteering at the front lines of the refugee crisis in Hungary, Germany, and Greece to providing legal information to detained migrants in Canada.

Derakhshan has published research on topics such as refugee migration and integration in the EU, Canadian foreign policy in Afghanistan, international law and human rights, and has shared her insights at multilateral forums such as the UN Human Rights Council. Formerly, she was also a Compliance Director with the G20 Research Group, Chair of Amnesty International UofT, and a Studio Y Fellow at MaRS Discovery District, Canada’s largest innovation hub.

Derakhshan is a recent J.D./B.C.L. graduate of McGill University’s Faculty of Law and graduated with High Distinction from the Honours Bachelor of Arts program at the University of Toronto, receiving her Joint Specialist degree in International Relations and Peace, Conflict & Justice.
