The Warriors

By Fatima Nargis

“How does a pair of heavenly set of eyes hold this much pain… this much burden… this much guilt?”

For many of us, that is all we did.

Held on, in hopes that one day, we could wake up the see a sunrise so beautiful, that it makes us let it go.

Held on, in hopes that one day, our roars reach beyond the mountains, that we have been carrying on our backs, walking distance to distance, finding a place to call home.

To the mother who carried me, allow me to carry what you held on to.

To the father whose hands now struggle to hold mine, allow me to hold yours.

This is beyond you now.

Let these set of heavenly eyes show how much strength it holds.

Fear Me.

A voice that has been conditioned to stay silent.

do not be so loud, it is not polite.

A voice that has been stripped of its power.

do not talk back, it is disrespectful

A voice that has held on to trauma.

let it go, this is what happens.

What some seem to forget

Is that I am a woman.

I hold on to power greater than anyone.

I hold on to strength better than anyone.

I hold on.

I am a divine gift from my mother and father.

I am the creation of Allah, Subhanahu Wa Ta’ala

This voice that shakes the core of the earth was given to me.

Do not dare think it can be taken.

And so, dare if you please.

For that allows me to roar with humour,

Knowing that you fear the power my voice holds.
