About: Zahira Sarwar is a mother, an artist, an activist and a visionary. She holds a BA Honours in Political Science, BA Honours in Women's and Gender Studies, and a Master of Arts. Zahira has co-edited “Diversity and Recognition: New Perspectives in Diasporic Experience” (2014). Her areas of research center around de-colonial and intersectional feminisms, Orientalism and the ways in which stereotypes about SWANA are deeply problematic. Her passion for these topics have translated into common themes in her illustrations. Zahira’s aim is to use art as a tool to celebrate diversity, while educating viewers about cultures that are portrayed in a singular and often negative light in mainstream media.
