pomegranate dreams

By Samira Basir

you are from the diaspora

which means you have always been floating

existing somewhere between here and there

only recently have you realized

that you are not alone in wondering

how you fit into this dual identity

there are so many layers

sometimes bitter, sometimes sweet

you find yourself constantly trying to navigate your way back home

wherever home is anyway

you are exhausted

all you wish is to be sitting

together with your whole family

eating pomegranates as you share stories from overseas
